Exceptionally decorative antique high Art Nouveau silver photo frame, made 1909. The frame has a solid silver repousse-worked Art Nouveau design depicting two peacocks either side of a rising sun, intertwined with a stylised foliate and floral design. Mounted on its original solid oak easel stand. Back-board secured by corner tabs and two swivel catches. Solidly hinged back support. Maximum dimensions are 23.5 cm in height and 19 cm wide. Aperture measures 13 cm x 9 cm. Hallmarked for Birmingham 1909 with markers mark J A & S for J Aitkin & Son of Spencer Street, Birmingham. The silver frame has suffered from someone attempting to remove a monogram (see last image) resulting in an area of damage/loss to the silver. Some dints and dents to the silver. It has clearly seen life and been loved! - and its price reflects this despite it remaining an exquisitely lovely, decorative item.
