Classic low back Windsor chair with a beautifully aged patina c1830. The chair has a shaped fruitwood backsplat, and with ash turnings, bows and spindles. Crinoline stretcher. Shaped elm seat with a lovely patina. Seat measures 49 cm x 36 cm (max dimensions). Height of seat is 44 cm. Vertical height to top of back-rail is 91 cm.

 

The Windsor chair is a uniquely English design thought to have been originally produced in the Thames Valley in the area around Windsor. The Regional Furniture Society has a comprehensive article on its construction and origins.
