An attractive late 19th century lancet top striking mantle clock stamped for F. Marti et Cie. The clock's mahogany case has an inlaid front panel, with box stringing and sandshaded box and harewood marquetry inlays. The mahogany veneer to its front exhibiting a distinct fiddleback figure. The clock is raised on four brass ogee feet. White dial with with floral chasing and finely pierced gilt hands. Black arabic numerals and minute ring. Finely cast and chased brass bezel with bevelled glass. An 8-day twin-train movement striking on a coiled gong. The movement's backplate is stamped with a silver medal for F. Marti et Cie dated 1889 and also stamped with a B below a crown within a circle (assumed to be the case maker). The clock measures 30 cm in height. Maximum base dimensions are 22 cm in width and 14 cm depth. An excellent example of its type.
