Striking ladies coromandel dressing case with jewellery draw c1880. Inlaid pewter and mother-of-pearl escutcheon and inlaid pewter and mother-of-pearl (blank) cartouche to lid. Engraved hinges and lock-plate. Original working lock with key. Inside the lid there is a gold embossed leather detail and velvet-backed mirror which releases to reveal a concealed pocket. Bevelled mirror with gold embossed leather frame. Internally there are deeper compartments towards the back and a removal tray at the front, with an additional compartment below. The tray has a fixed velvet pad and a removable pad (holding a manicure set) which hides a further compartment. Original compartments and lining to the jewellery draw which has a concealed release catch. Incomplete set of glass containers / canisters which, given the quality of the box, are likely to be replacements. Dimensions; 30cm width, 22.5cm depth, 17cm height.
