Maud Bowden was one of the many long-serving Doulton Lambeth assistants - starting in 1903 when the elaborate designs of the Victorian period changed into more simple tube-lined designs. She worked at Royal Doulton until 1937, when the Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles were in decline. She was well regarded as a Senior Assistant - assisting Doulton artists as well as making her own pieces. For more information on Royal Doulton visit our Maker's History pages.
Royal Doulton Stoneware Jardiniere by Maud Bowden c.1905 (22cm)
This jardiniereis in excellent original condition. No chips, cracks or crazing. Salt-glazing naturally produced a stippled effect on the finished colour as seen on this piece. There is a barely visible superficial firing-crack on its base - the image of its internal bowl showing no flaws. Please see images as these form an important part of the description.
