Attractive Royal Doulton Stoneware tubeline decorated vase by Bessie Newbery c1910.  Elegantly shaped baluster form body with waisted neck and everted rim. Beautifully depicted white carnations on a mottled sky-blue ground. Verse to reverse of vase reading "Time is ever on the wing, With it's song and sorrow, Strive to go some good today, Wait not 'til to-morrow." Impressed Royal Doulton mark (used 1902-1922) to base together with monograms BN (for Bessie Newbery) and t (unknown). The vase is 26 cm in height.

 

Bessie Newbery was listed in 1882 as a Junior Assistant but her talent was recognised and she was promoted to Senior Assistant. By 1911 she was working as a Supervisor and Artist, designing original work c1914 to 1924. For more information on Doulton visit our Maker's History pages.
