A nicely proportioned small French slate mantel clock c1880. The case is of polished black slate with engraved motifs to front. White enamelled dial with black Roman numerals and blued-steel moon shaped hands. Gilt brass inner bezel and outer surround to the bevelled glass dial cover. A single-train 8-day movement with Vallet pendulum suspension to enable fine regulation. The Vallet suspension was an earlier alternative and was superseded by the Brocot suspension. Serial number 1246 stamped on the backplate and pendulum. Backplate also stamped K & G within an oval. The clock measures 20 cm in height, 19.5 cm in width and 11.5 cm (maximum) depth. Excellent timekeeper. Fully cleaned and serviced but retaining its antique patina. The clock's movement is covered by our 12-month warranty in the UK.
