An elegantly styled tall Victorian black slate and verde marble mantle clock c1860. Rectangular case of polished black slate with verde marble detail to front corners. The dial consisting of a white enamelled chapter ring with black Roman numerals and blued steel moon-shaped hands. Brocot control (for fine regulation) to top of chapter ring. Stepped white enamelled inner dial with exposed escapement. Gilt-brass inner bezel with brass outer surround to the bevelled glass dial cover. Glass rear door allowing access to the twin-train 14-day movement. Striking the hours and half-hour on a bell with external strike count-wheel (used pre-1880). Serial number 2802 stamped on backplate and pendulum. The clock measures 37.5 cm in height and 30.5 cm in width. Maximum overall depth to include back cover is 17 cm. Excellent timekeeper. Exceptionally minor signs of age and use to the marble case which is in rarely found excellent condition. Superficial scratch to the glass dial cover not evident when displayed.
