Large Doulton Lambeth salt-glazed stoneware vase by Eliza Simmance, c1890. Intricate tubelined, Art Nouveau stylised foliate and floral design on panels repeated (x3) on an olive green body. Fluted neck. 42cm height, 9cm base, 12.5cm rim, 15.5 at shoulder. Incised Doulton Lambeth mark used c1891-1956, not usually used on decorated stoneware after 1902. Signed with Eliza Simmance's monogram (ES) - the queen of Doulton's original Art Nouveau designs.

 

Eliza Simmance, one of the earliest artist engaged, worked at Doulton Lambeth as an Artist and Designer between 1873 and 1928. She quickly became recognised as an original and versatile designer - winning many high awards at international exhibitions.
