Classic Linthorpe Pottery twin-handled vase c1885. The vase has a conical body with cylindrical neck and everted fluted rim. Twin handles drawing on the neo-classical style. Attractive mulberry-coloured glaze to exterior and straw-yellow to inside rim. Impressed mark for the Linthorpe Pottery with model number 1839. The vase is 28.5 cm in height.

 

In 1879 John Harrison (a local businessman) established Linthorpe Pottery in conjunction with Christopher Dresser, one of the most influential designers of the late 19th century. Dresser acted as artistic director at the Pottery until 1882 and continued to submit designs whilst the Pottery remained in production.   • This vase is in very good condition commensurate with age. No chips, cracks or significant crazing and very minor signs of age. There is a very good professionally restored surface chip to the underside of the rim. Please see images as these form an important part of the description.
