Pair of Royal Doulton Lambeth salt-glaze stoneware vases c1925. Tube-lined Art Nouveau stylised foliate and floral design on shoulder. Blue stippled body with olive green neck. The vases are 15.5 cm in height. Both have an incised Royal Doulton mark used 1922-1956. One vase is signed MB (Maud Bowden; Senior Assistant c1903 to 1937), the other is signed LP (Lily Partington; Senior Assistant during the 1920's and 30's). Pattern number 8235.
Maud Bowden was one of the many long-serving Doulton Lambeth assistants - starting in 1903 when the elaborate designs of the Victorian period changed into more simple tube-lined designs. She worked at Royal Doulton until 1937, when the Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles were in decline. Lily Partington worked at Doulton Lambeth from early in the 1920's into the 1930's. Both were well regarded as Senior Assistants - both assisting Doulton artists as well as making their own pieces. For information on Royal Doulton visit our Maker's History pages.
Pair of Royal Doulton Art Nouveau Stoneware Vases c1925
These vases are in perfect original condition. No chips, cracks or crazing. Salt-glazing naturally produced a stippled effect on the finished colour, sometimes with the under-glaze or body colour visible in places - this is seen on these pieces. Please see images as these form an important part of the description.
